Today I finally managed to share this crochet pencil case using a zipper which I wanted to make since way back when I started my blog. I used simple stitches (single crochet) that’s why I was able to add in embroidery to it which is optional.

Materials
Medium thickness yarn with suitable crochet hook (2 colors or more)
Zipper the size of your case
Large needle
Sharp tipped scissors
Ruler
Pins
Fabric and sewing needle for lining (optional)
Terms
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
Preparing the zipper
Crochet number of chs longer than the zipper.
Crochet sc in each ch (this is not the pattern)
Place the row of sc on top of the zipper and count how much st you need to cover one side. Make sure it’s longer than the metal parts on the sides.
The stitches’s number needs to be even.
make holes using the large needle (half the number of stitches you need) evenly distributed
Make holes on the other side of the zipper too.
Your zipper is ready to crochet.
Directions
Place the zipper horizontally right side up and start crocheting on the right upper side.
Rnd 1: 3 sc in first hole, 2 sc in each hole until you reach the end of the first side, 3 sc in last hole of this side,
Now we’ll be working on the other side of the zipper, do not turn.
3 sc in first hole, 2 sc in each hole until you reach the last one, 3 sc in last hole.
R 2: Sc in each st around.
R 3 – 21: Repeat R 2. You can make more rounds and use more than one color. Do not FO.
Embroidery (optional)
Use the needle and yarn to make small X on top of the sc stitches. (double the yarn to make the Xs more visible.
Finishing
Fold the case and join the two side using sl st by inserting the hook in the inner loops. FO and wave in all ends.
Lining (optional)
Use the fabric to line the pencil case.
