This week we have different and funny pattern, this week we’ve crochet Aku Aku from Crash Bandicoot. Easy and very fun to make. Interesting gift for someone how likes the game.

Any kind of cotton yarn with suitable crochet hook (several colors)

MR – Magic ring
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
sc2tog – 2 single crochet together
Notes:
You do not need to weave in ends of the face features in this pattern because it’ll be hidden inside, you just need to secure it.
Directions:
The wooden mask
Make two leaving long tail for sewing for one of the pieces. Use brown color.
R 1: Ch 13, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc each st. (12 sc)
R 2 – 10: Ch 1, sc in each st. (12 sc)
R 11: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each of next sts. (11 sc)
R 12 – 18: Ch 1, sc in each st. (11 sc)
FO leaving a long tail at the end of one of the pieces.
The feathers
Make four feathers using different color for each one. I used red, blue, yellow and green.
Rnd 1: Ch 12, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc, hdc in each of next two sts, 2 dc, tr, 2 dc, hdc in each of next two sts, sc, 3 sc last st.
Working on the other side of the beginning chs, sc, hdc in each of next two sts, 2 dc, tr, 2 dc, hdc in each of next two sts, sc, 2 sc last st. Sl st next st. FO and weave in ends.
The brows
Make two using the red color. Do not weave in ends.
R 1: Ch 5, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc each st. (4 sc)
FO leaving long tail for each one.
The eyes
Make two using the yellow color. Do not weave in ends.
R 1: Ch 4, sc 2nd ch from the hook, 2 hdc, sc. FO leaving long tail for each eye.
The nose
Make one using red or orange color. Do not weave in ends.
Rnd 1: MR, 3 sc in the ring. (3 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc each st. (6 sc)
Rnd 3: *2 sc, sc* repeat 3 times. Sl st and FO leaving long tail for sewing.
The mouth
Make one using the red color. Do not weave in ends.
Rnd 1: Ch 6, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each of next 3 sts, 3 sc last st. Working on the other side of the beginning chs, sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc last st. Sl st in first sc. FO leaving long tail.
The beard or leaf
Make one using green color. Do not FO until the end of the pattern.
R 1: Ch 8, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each st. (7 sc)
R 2: Ch 4, sl st 2nd ch form the hook, sc in each of next 2 sts, skip next st of R 1, sl st next st.
Ch 4, sl st 2nd ch from the hook, sc, 2 hdc, skip next st of R 1, sl st next st.
Ch 4, sl st 2nd ch form the hook, sc in each of next 2 sts, skip next st of R 1, sl st next st. FO.
Sewing the pieces together:
• We’ll sew all the face features including the feathers and beard to one of the wooden mask pieces, then sew the other piece to hide all the loose ends.
• Cut a piece of yarn with the color you used for the wooden mask and use it to sew the feathers and beard.
• Make a small part of the feathers and beard to be inside to make it steadier.
• Sew the brows, eyes, nose and mouth and tie the tails at the bake of the work (you do not need to weave in ends).
• Use the the green yarn to sew a line under each eye, and the a white yarn to sew a line in the center of the mouth. Tie the tails at the bake.
• Place the other piece of the wooden mask to hide all the loose ends and use the tail to sew the two pieces together. FO and weave in ends.
