Crochet Doily Using small Zigzag Stitch

This week I’ll be sharing this simple yet beautiful crochet doily using what I call the zigzag stitch. The stitch is very simple but it makes all the difference. This doily can be make to any size you like.

Mini cushion

I used the same instructions in this pattern to make this mini cushion. You can read the steps at the end of this pattern.

Skill level: Easy/Intermediate
Size: Free

Materials:

Any kind of yarn with suitable crochet hook (use the colors you like)
Needle

Terms:

MR – Magic ring
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
FL – front loop only
BL – back loop only

Notes:

We’ll be using color 1 for the regular dc circle stitches. Color 2 for the zigzag stitches, it can be one color or different ones each circle like I did.

Directions:

Rnd 1: Using color 1, MR, ch 3 (count as dc), 11 dc in the ring. Using color 2, sl st 3rd ch. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: *Sl st FL of next st, ch 1* repeat until the end of the circle, sl st both loops last st.

Rnd 3: We’ll be working in BL that we left in the previous round.

Using color 1, sl st BL in first st, ch 3 (count as dc), dc same BL, 2 dc BL each st until the end of the round. Using color 2, sl st 3rd ch. (24 dc)

Rnd 4: Repeat round 2.

Rnd 5: We’ll be working in BL that we left in the previous round.

Using color 1, sl st BL in first st, ch 3 (count as dc), dc same BL, dc BL next st, *2 dc Bl, dc BL* repeat until the end of the round. Using color 2, sl st 3rd ch. (36 dc)

Rnd 6: Repeat round 2.

Complete your work repeating round 2 and the regular increasing round until you have the size you like. Make sure to end with a repeat of round 2.

At the end, FO and weave in ends.

Mini cushion

Use the same pattern to make two same size doilies.

FO at the end of the first one.

When you finish the second one do not FO.

Ch 1, sl st around the doilies to close them together. FO at the end.
