Today I’ll be sharing this crochet hook grip/cushion crochet pattern. I suffered from wrist pain caused by crocheting with small size crochet hook and thin yarn/thread. I couldn’t continue working with my doily and dolls because of that and I didn’t know what is the matter with me, I thought I was the only one. After searching and googling around I found that it was a very common medical condition due to repetitive motion of the hand during your crochet work or any other thing. I learned that I need to take a rest from crocheting and do some stretches. I also learned that the larger the part you grip on the crochet hook the less likely you’ll have this kind of pain. Today I’ll be crocheting hook grip to help maintaining this condition.
Designer: Nada
Skill level: Easy
Size: Free
Materials:
Any kind of yarn with medium thickness to thick with suitable crochet hook
Your hook that you want to make the grip for
Needle for sewing
Terms:
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
BL – back loop only
Notes:
You can adjust the grip size easily as you’ll see in the pattern.
I’m crocheting in the BL because that gives more thickness and elasticity to the grip.
Directions:
Row 1: Ch 13, sc 2nd chain from hook, sc across. (12 sc)
Make more or less of the beginning chains to match the length you want for the grip.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc BL each st. (12 sc)
Row 3: Repeat row 2. If the grip is tight repeat row 2 once more. Don’t make the grip too loose that it can slide easily form the hook.
Closing the grip:
Ch 1, insert the hook in BL of the next st, insert the hook in the first remaining loop of the opiset side of the first row as you can see in the pic below. Make sl st. Repeat the steps to close the grip. FO and weave in ends.

What hook size do you use in the grip
It depends on your yarn thickness and what you usually use with it. I think I used 5 mm hook size.
