Crochet SpongeBob SquarePants

This week I’ll be sharing crochet SpongeBob SquarePants pattern. It’s very easy to make and doesn’t have any special stitches or techniques.

Materials:

Any kind of yarn you like with colors yellow, white, brown, red and black
I used 2 mm thick cotton thread with 2 mm crochet hook
Doll eyes or safety eyes
Needle for sewing
Keychain or metallic ring

Terms:

MR – Magic ring
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc2tog – 2 single crochet together

Notes:

We’ll be working the front and the back part of Spongebob then fold it in half.
When you change the color make sure to leave about 6″ long tail for sewing.
If your yarn is soft and wouldn’t hold it’s shape you can stuff it with flat thick fabric.

Directions:

Row 1: Use yellow. Ch 13, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc each st. (12 sc)
Row 2 – 5: Ch 1, sc each st. (12 sc)
Row 6: Ch 1, sc, sc2tog, sc in each of next 6 sts, sc2tog, sc next st. (10 sc)
Row 7 – 11: Ch 1, sc each st. (10 sc)
Row 12 – 13: Use white. Ch 1, sc each st. (10 sc)
Row 14 – 19: Use brown. Ch 1, sc each st. (10 sc)
Row 20 – 21: Use white. Ch 1, sc each st. (10 sc)
Row 22 – 26: Use Yellow. Ch 1, sc each st. (10 sc)
Row 27: Ch 1, sc, 2 sc next st, sc in each of next 6 sts, 2 sc next st, sc next st. (12 sc)
Row 28 – 32: Ch 1, sc each st. FO leaving 8″ long tail for sewing. (12 sc)

Bow tie:
Ch 7, hdc 3rd ch from the hook, sc, sl st, sc, hdc. FO leaving about 6 – 8″ long tail.
• Use the needle and weave in the tail to the middle of the bow tie.
• Wrap the yarn around the middle 3 – 5 times them secure it.

Finishing:

Sew or glue the eyes.
• Use the black yarn or thread to sew the mouth and lashes.
• Sew the bow tie.
• Fold your work in half and use the tails to sew the sides and upper part adding in the thick fabric if you want.
• Sew the keychain or metallic ring if you like.
• Use the black yarn or thread to sew the belt.
