Free pattern for crochet square basket. Very easy and simple, you can resize it and use more than one color. Have fun!

Notes:
You can resize the basket very easily.
The bottom of the basket will have some holes because we’re using a thick yarn. You can cover it by using thin plastic board or cardboard covered with fabric using gun glue.
I used the half double crochet stitch because it’s more compact than the double crochet stitch.
If you want to use the double crochet stitch in this basket use this pattern for the bottom.
Directions:
The basket bottom:
Rnd 1: MR, ch 2 (count as hdc), 2 hdc, ch 2, *3 hdc, ch 2* repeat 3 times. Sl st 2nd ch we start with. (12 hdc)
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (count as hdc), hdc in each of next 2 sts, {2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc} in next chs space.
*hdc in each of next 3 sts, {2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc} in next chs space* repeat 3 times. Sl st 2nd ch we start with. (28 hdc)
Rnd 3: Ch 2 (count as hdc), hdc in each of next 4 sts, {2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc} in next chs space.
*hdc in each of next 7 sts, {2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc} in next chs space* repeat 3 times. Hdc in each of next 2 sts, sl st 2nd ch we start with. (44 hdc)
Keep crocheting more rounds if you like to have larger bottom. Don’t FO.
The basket sides:
Rnd 4: All stitches in this round are worked BL.
Ch 2 (count as hdc), hdc in each of next 6 sts, *skip next chs space, hdc in each of next 11 sts* repeat 3 times. Skip next chs space, hdc in each of next 4 sts, sl st 2nd ch we start with. (44 hdc)
Rnd 5 – 6: Ch 2 (count as hdc), hdc in each sts. Sl st 2nd ch we started with. (44 hdc)
Rnd 7: Ch 2 (count as hdc), hdc in each of next 11 sts, ch 5, skip next 5 sts, hdc in each of next 17 sts, ch 5, skip next 5 sts, hdc in each of next 5 sts. Sl st 2nd ch we started with. (34 hdc + 2 chs spaces)
Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in each of next 12 sts, 8 sc in next chs space, sc in each of next 17 sts, 8 sc in next chs space, sc in each of next 5 sts. Sl st next st or use the invisible sl st. FO and weave in ends. (50 sc)
Finishing:
If you didn’t live the holes on the bottom of your basket, cover a plastic board or cardboard the size of your basket, with fabric and put it inside.
