In a previous pattern I shared how to crochet a rows tapestry rug. In this pattern I’ll use the same method to crochet tapestry squares with unique sides.
Designer: Nada
Skill level: Intermediate
Size: Free
Materials:
Thin yarn or cotton thread with crochet hook one size larger than what you’d normally use with it
T-shirt yarn
Needle
Terms:
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
Notes:
• This pattern is resizeable by adding more chains at the beginning and more rows.
• W’ll be working around the t-shirt yarn.
• At the end of each row we’ll pull the t-shirt yarn a little to make a small loop.
• At the end we’ll be working around the square’s sides (first three ones).
Directions:
Row 1: Using the thin yarn only crochet an odd number of chains the width of your square. Start working around the t-shirt yarn from now til the end of the pattern. Sc 3rd ch from the hook, ch 1, skip next st, *sc next st, ch 1, skip next st* repeat until the end of the row, sc in last st.
Row 2: Turn and make sure to pull the t-shirt yarn a little to make a small loop at the side as you can see in the pics.
Ch 2, *sc next ch sp, ch 1* repeat until the end of the row, sc last st.
Remaining rows: Repeat row 2 until you have not exactly a square but something a little bit longer. Do not FO.
Working around the square:
Do not turn, we’ll be working around the square’s next 3 sides.
First side: Working around the t-shirt yarn alone, sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1.
Next we’ll working around the t-shirt yarn and the side loops as you can see in the pics.
[sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1] around the t-shirt yarn and the first loop. Repeat for each loop until the end of the first side. Working around the t-shirt yarn alone, sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1.
Second side: Do not turn. Next we’ll be working around the t-shirt yarn and in ch sp on the other side of the beginning chains (see pics). *sc next ch sp, ch 1* repeat until the end of the next side.
Third side: Repeat same steps as the first side. To close the work, sl st in first st of the fourth side. FO and weave in ends.
