Since we’re almost at the end of the year and a lot of students are graduating, I decided to make and share this mini crochet graduation hat. It’s so easy and perfect as gifts in graduation parties. I hope you like it.

Materials:
Thin cotton yarn/thread with suitable crochet hook (You’ll need two colors)
Needle
Terms:
MR – Magic ring
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
BL – back loop only
Special terms:
Invisible slip stitch/Invisible join
Notes:
This pattern contains three parts. Two parts for the hat and the third one is the tassel.
Directions:
The hat:
Part one:
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc in the ring. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc each st. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: *2 sc, sc* repeat 6 times. Sl st at the end. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc BL next st, sc BL in each st around. Don’t sl st. (18 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc in each st. (18 sc)
Rnd 6: Sc in each st. Invisible sl st or the regular one. FO leaving 6″ long tail for sewing. (18 sc)
Part two (the square):
Row 1: Ch 10, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc each st. (9 sc)
Row 2 – 9: Ch 1, turn, sc each st. FO and weave in ends at the end of row 9. (9 sc)
The tassel:
1. Wrap the yarn around two thick pens or a ruler four times then cut the yarn.
2. Slip off the loops carefully.
3. Cut a new piece of yarn about 4 to 5″ long and place it under the upper part of the loops.
4. Tie two knots.
5. Cut the excess from the bottom of the tassel.
6. Cut a new piece of yarn about 8″ long. Use the needle to insert it into the upper part loops.
7. Tie two knots and do not cut the remaining tail.
Finishing:
Use the remaining tail from part one of the hat to sew part two to it, then weave in ends.
Sew the tassel on top of the hat. You can make a loop if you like.
