In this crochet pattern I’ll be sharing the chains hat. I named it the chains hat because it looks like chains are warped around it. But actually it’s not chains but a unique technique using the normal stitches.
This technique called working in the back back loop, which is the loop that located behind the back loop. Sometimes it called the camel stitch.

This hat will be worked from bottom to top and it’s easy to resize.
This is the bottom part and it’ll in rows. It should be the size of the head circumference.
R 1: Ch 8, dc 3rd ch from the hook, dc in each st.
R 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), dc BL in each st.
Repeat R 2 until you reach the size of head circumference. It should be an even number of rows.
Ch 1, sl st BL next st with the remaining loop of the first loop of the other side. Repeat until you close the side. Do not FO.
Measure it or try it on to make sure it’s the right size.
This is the upper part of the hat and it’ll be worked in rounds.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 sc parted evenly in the end of each row of part one. You should end up with double number of your rows of part one. Sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc same st, dc in each of next 3 sts, *2 dc, dc in each of next 3 sts* repeat until the end of round. Sl st 3rd ch.
R 3: Ch 1, sc BBL in each st. Sl st in first st.
R 4: Ch 2 (count as dc), dc BBL in each st. Sl st in 2nd ch.
R 5: Ch 1, sc BBL in each st. Sl st in first st.
Repeat R 4 and R 5 until you reach the length of the hat.
Last Round: Ch 2, dc BBL next st, dc2tog BBL in each st until the end of round. Sl st in first st.
FO leaving about 8″ long tail to sew the upper part of the hat.
Use the needle to sew the upper part of the hat, then secure the end tail.
