This is one of the winter waves patterns collection I designed lately. This week we’ve crochet waves hat that can be made to any size. I hope you like it and have fun.

Two colors medium thickness yarn with suitable crochet hook

st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
sc2tog – 2 single crochet together
hdc2tog – 2 half double crochet together
BL – back loop only
FPdc – front post double crochet
Special terms
BBL – Back back loop/Camel stitch
Notes
Check your measurements as you go.
I’ll split the instructions into 3 parts. Do not FO until the end.
If you find the BBL difficult, you can replace it with BL.
Directions
Part one
The brim of the hat and we’ll be using the FPdc and one color for this part.
Rnd 1: Color one. Crochet number of chains making sure it’s multiple of 14 and has the measurement of the head circumference.
Sl st first ch, ch 3 (count as dc), dc in each st, sl st 3rd ch.
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (count hdc), FPdc, *hdc, FPdc* repeat until the end of the round, sl st 2nd ch. (recheck you measurement before you complete next steps).
R 3 – 4: Repeat round 2. You can add more rounds if you need to. Do not FO.

Part two
The middle section of the hat that will look like waves. We’ll be using two colors in this part. All stitches will be worked in BBL (or BL, see notes).
Rnd 1: Color two. Ch 1, sc BBL same st, all next sts in BBL, hdc, dc, 2 tr, dc, hdc, sc, *sc, hdc, dc, 2 tr, dc, hdc, sc* repeat until the end of the round, sl st first sc.
Rnd 2: Color one. Ch 3 (does not count as st), tr BBL same st, all next sts in BBL, dc, hdc, sc, sc, hdc, dc, tr, *tr, dc, hdc, sc, sc, hdc, dc, tr* repeat until the end of the round, sl st in first tr.
Rnd 3: Color two. Ch 1, sc BBL same st, all next sts in BBL, hdc, dc, tr, tr, dc, hdc, sc, *sc, hdc, dc, tr, tr, dc, hdc, sc* repeat until the end of the round, sl st first sc.
Remaining rounds: Repeat rounds 2 & 3 alternately until you reach the hat length or a little shorter. Do not FO because you might come back to this section to increase or decrease the number of rounds.
Part three
The top of the hat. We’ll be using color two and will work normally.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc same st, hdc in each st until the end of the round, sl st in first st.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, *hdc2tog, FPdc* repeat until the end of the round, sl st in first st.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *hdc2tog, hdc, FPdc* repeat until the end of the round, you might end up with hdc2tog, sl st in first st.
Rnd 4: Repeat round 2, you might end up with an extra st, work hdc in that one, sl st in first st.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc2tog around until the end of the round, if you have extra st, work sc in it.
Rnd 6: Optional round you might not need it. Sc2tog around.
Finishing
Check your hat measurement before FO.
FO leaving long tail at the end to sew the gap on top of the hat.
Weave in all ends.
Add in pompom if you like and you’re done!
