Notes:
This hat’ll be worked from top to bottom.
The pattern contain two parts, in the first one we’ll be increasing in each round until we have the top of the head’s size.
In part two we’ll stop increasing and continue working until we have the right length of the hat.
Directions:
Part one:
It’s the top part of the hat, and at the end it should contain an even number of rounds. Continue increasing until you reach the size you like.
Rnd 1: MR, ch 3 (count as dc), 11 dc in the ring. Sl st 3rd ch. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc same st, 2 dc each st around. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc same st, FPdc next, *2 dc, FPdc* repeat 11 times. Sl st 3rd ch. (36 sts)
Rnd 4: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc same st, dc next st, FPdc next, *2 dc, dc next st, FPdc* repeat 11 times. (48 sts)
Rnd 5: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc same st, dc next 2 sts, FPdc next, *2 dc, dc next 2 sts, FPdc* repeat 11 times. (60 sts)
Rnd 6: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc same st, dc next 3 sts, FPdc next, *2 dc, dc next 3 sts, FPdc* repeat 11 times. (72 sts)
You can stop here if the size is right for you, or you could keep increasing. Make sure you end up with an even number of rounds. My hat was 7″ diameter which fits an adult. Don’t FO.
Part two:
We’ll stop increasing in this part, and we’ll be making new columns between the old ones. Keep crocheting rounds until you reach the length of your hat.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc each st until you reach the st in the middle between two FPdc. FPdc in the middle st, dc each st until you reach the next FPdc, FPdc next FPdc. Repeat until the end crocheting dc each st, FPdc in each FPdc and FPdc in each middle st between FPdc from last round of part one. Sl st 3rd ch.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in each dc, FPdc in each FPdc. Sl st 3rd ch to close.
Repeat round 2 until you reach the length you like. Use the invisible sl st at the end, or you can use the regular one.
