Crochet square basket that I used surface crochet not for decorations only but it was to make the basket more sturdy. The reason is that I used regular single crochet and it’s not the steadiest stitch for basket but it’s easier than knit single crochet.

Directions
Base
Rnd 1: MR, 8 sc in the ring. (8 sc)
Rnd 2: *3 sc, sc* repeat 4 times. (16 sc)
Rnd 3: Sc, *3 sc, sc in each of next 3 sts* repeat 3 times, 3 sc, sc in each of next 2 sts. (24 sc)
Rnd 4: Sc in each of next 2 sts, *3 sc, sc in each of next 5 sts* repeat 3 times, 3 sc, sc in each of next 3 sts. (32 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc in each of next 3 sts, *3 sc, sc in each of next 7 sts* repeat 3 times, 3 sc, sc in each of next 4 sts. (40 sc)
Rnd 6: Sc in each of next 4 sts, *3 sc, sc in each of next 9 sts* repeat 3 times, 3 sc, sc in each of next 5 sts. (48 sc)
Rnd 7: Sc in each of next 5 sts, *3 sc, sc in each of next 11 sts* repeat 3 times, 3 sc, sc in each of next 6 sts. (56 sc)
Note: You can increase the size of your base by adding more rounds. All you need to do is work one single crochet in each stitch and 3 sc in each corner.
Sides
Rnd 8: Sl st next st, all next st will be worked in BL+BBL, sc BL+BBL in each st around. (56 sc)
Rnd 9 – 15: Complete working on normal loops. Sc in each st around. Sl st at the end of last round. FO and weave in ends.
Surface crochet
It’s easier to make the surface crochet on your basket along side working on the basket itself. After working several round of the basket go and work some round of the surface crochet.
Surface crochet is very easy, it’s actually working slip stitch through your work not on the edge like usual. (Link with pics)
Start on the first sc of your basket work your way though all stitch in order. You can use any color you like. At the end FO and wave in ends.
