Crochet Clutch Purse or Pencil Case – T-shirt Yarn

This is crochet clutch purse or pencil case pattern that I used t-shirt yarn to make it. As you know the t-shirt yarn have a very nice projects especially with bags and baskets. And this pattern is my first attempt to design one and I hope it’s not the last.

Materials

T-shirt yarn with suitable crochet hook
Needle for weave in ends
Large button
Sewing needle and thread to sew the button

Terms

MR – Magic ring
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet

Special terms

Invisible slip stitch/Invisible join

Notes

This pattern contains two circles and a rectangle. We’ll be joining the circles to the rectangle to make the cylinder shape of the clutch. Do not FO after making the rectangle and complete with the joining steps.

Directions

The sides circles

Make two. FO and weave in ends after each one.

Rnd 1: MR, ch 1, 12 hdc, sl st in first hdc. (12 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st, sl st in first st or make the invisible sl st. (24 hdc)

FO and weave in ends.

The rectangle

R 1: Ch 16, sc 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each ch. (15 sc)

R 2 – 27: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. (15 sc)

R 28: Do not ch 1, turn, sl st in each of next 6 sts, sc, [hdc, dc, ch 8, sl st 8th ch from the hook, dc, hdc] all in next st, sc, sl st in each of next 6 sts. Do not FO and do not turn.

Joining

* We’ll be working on the next edge of the rectangle counting each end of raw as  a stitch, using one loop of it.

* Sl st in each of next 3 sts (pics 1 – 2)

* Start joining the first circle to the rectangle using sc by inserting the hook in one loop of the rectangle and two loop of the opposite stitch of the circle. Make sure the circle is RS out (pic 3)

* Continue working around the circle. You’ll end up with 24 sc (pics 4 – 5)

* We’ll start working on next edge of the rectangle alone without joining it with anything. Ch 1, sl st in each st until the end of the row (pics 6 – 7 – 8)

* Now we’ll start joining the second circle using same steps as the first one. Using sc to join by inserting the hook in one loops of the row’s end and two loops of the opposite stitch of the circle. Make sure the circle is RS out (pics 8 – 9 – 10)

* Continue working around the circle until the last st of it. We’ll end up with 24 sc and 3 remaining sts on the rectangle’s edge.

* Sl st in each of the 3 remaining sts. FO and weave in all ends.

* Sew the button in the right place and you’re done!
