Crochet Puff Basket Using Puff Stitch & T-shirt Yarn

I like baskets and it’s one of the popular patterns, so today I’m sharing with you how to make this crochet puff basket. I used the puff stitch in the sides and the t-shirt yarn. This basket can be made in almost any size.

Materials

T-shirt yarn with suitable crochet hook
Needle

Terms

MR – Magic ring
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
YO – yarn over
Puff st – Puff stitch (YO twice only)

Special terms

Invisible slip stitch/Invisible join at the end of the pattern (optional)
Revers slip stitch (we’ll use it one time at the end of the base round instead of the regular slip stitch)

Reverse Slip Stitch

We’ll make this stitch one time at the end of last round of the base.

* At the end of last stitch of the base, remove the hook and leave it for a bit. (pic 1, 2)

* Turn your work making the wrong side towards you. (pic 3)

* Insert the hook in both loops of the stitch on the right side of the loose loop. (pic 4)

* Using your finger insert the loose loop in the hook. (pic 5)

* Using the hook, pull the loop through toward you. (pic 6)

* Do not turn. Complete with sides directions.

Notes

You can make this basket any size you like be increasing the rounds of the base and sides.
Do not FO until the end of the pattern.
Do not turn unless specified (we’ll turn two times only in this pattern).
You’ll realize that the basket is very loose after the puff stitch rounds and that is normal, it will take it’s shape after crocheting the next round.

Directions

Small Basket

Rnd 1: MR, ch 2 (does not count as st), 12 dc, sl st in first dc. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), 2 dc in each st, make the reverse slip stitch at the end of this round. (24 dc)

Rnd 3: Sl st in each st around. (24 sl st)

Rnd 4: Turn, ch 2, (does not count as st), puff st same st, puff stitch in each st around, sl st in first puff st. (24 puff st)

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc same st, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc. (24 sc)

Rnd 6: Ch 2, (does not count as st), puff st same st, puff stitch in each st around, sl st in first puff st. (24 puff st)

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc same st, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc. (24 sc)

Rnd 8: Sl st in each st around, invisible sl st (optional). FO and weave in ends. (24 sl st)

Large Basket

Rnd 1: MR, ch 2 (does not count as st), 12 dc, sl st in first dc. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), 2 dc in each st, sl st in first dc. (24 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2 (does not count as st), *2 dc, dc* repeat until the end of the round, make the reverse slip stitch at the end of this round. (36 dc)

Rnd 4: Sl st in each st around. (36 sl st)

Rnd 5: Turn, ch 2, (does not count as st), puff st same st, puff stitch in each st around, sl st in first puff st. (36 puff st)

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc same st, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc. (36 sc)

Rnd 7: Turn, ch 2, (does not count as st), puff st same st, puff stitch in each st around, sl st in first puff st. (36 puff st)

Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc same st, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc. (36 sc)

Rnd 9: Sl st in each st around, invisible sl st (optional). FO and weave in ends. (36 sl st)
